Chennai Super Kings reach IPL finals for the 10th time
Chennai Super Kings has proved yet again why it is perhaps the most consistent team in the Indian Premier League. In a fierce contest last night against the mighty Gujarat Titans, Chennai registered a rather mediocre total of 172 runs in the first innings. Openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway came through once again and scored 60 and 40, respectively, but their middle order failed to shine as nobody made any decent contribution except Ravindra Jadeja, who scored 22 to push their score past 170.
Gujarat Titans, who had convincingly chased a near 200 score in their last game against RCB, were at an advantage in the second innings, as the in-form Shubhman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha opened their batting attack. However, Deepak Chahar struck early and sent both of them in brief gaps, whereas spinners Theekshana and Jadeja ran through Gujarat’s middle order. Rashid Khan tried to fight back with a respectable 30, but Chennai bowlers kept on increasing pressure on the batsman by stifling the run rate. The game went till the last over, and Chennai Super Kings suffocated Gujarat Titans to 157 runs in 20 overs.
But all hope is not lost for the Titans. They will face whoever wins between Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians, and if they win, they may face Chennai Super Kings yet again in the final. Lucknow Super Giants vs Mumbai Indians will begin tonight at 7:30.
