Channi stated unreliability of Kejriwal post Liquor Scam
India bloc partner Congress’ leader Charanjit Singh Channi expressed distrust towards Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday. Channi, Congress’s candidate from Jalandhar, criticized Kejriwal while commenting on the Delhi CM’s upcoming roadshow in Punjab for the Lok Sabha election campaign. He accused Kejriwal of involvement in a liquor scam. He stated that Kejriwal’s recent release from jail was only temporary, granted by the Supreme Court till June 1 in the Delhi liquor policy case. Channi asserted, “Kejriwal, who is involved in the liquor scam and is out of jail for only 15 days, can’t be trusted.” He further demanded an inquiry into similar scams in Delhi and Punjab, adding that Kejriwal should be opposed rather than welcomed.
Arvind Kejriwal is set to launch his Lok Sabha election campaign in Punjab with a significant roadshow in Amritsar, joined by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Despite their coalition in Delhi, where Congress and AAP have a 3:4 seat-sharing agreement, both parties are contesting separately in Punjab by mutual agreement. Channi also criticized the AAP government, claiming widespread drug trafficking and deteriorating law and order in Punjab. He runs against AAP candidate Pawan Kumar Tinu and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate Mohinder Singh Kaypee in Jalandhar. Previously, Channi faced criticism for comments following a May 4 terrorist attack on an IAF convoy in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. He had suggested the attacks were mere stunts, leading to backlash. Channi later clarified that his remarks were aimed at the Centre regarding the 2019 Pulwama terror strike, expressing pride in the country’s soldiers.
