In a tragic incident in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, two members of the Central Reserve Police Force’s CoBRA unit were killed in a Naxalite attack on Sunday.

The Naxalites detonated an improvised explosive device (IED), targeting a truck near Timmapuram village, situated between the Silger and Tekalgudem security camps, over 400 km from Raipur. The explosion occurred around 3 pm and claimed the lives of constable Shailendra (29) and the truck driver Vishnu R (35). A senior police official reported that the CoBRA unit’s 201st battalion was on patrol as part of their Road Opening Party duties when the blast occurred. The patrol team had set out from the Silger camp within the Jagargunda police station’s jurisdiction, heading towards Tekalgudem. The security personnel were traveling in a truck and on motorcycles when the Naxalites triggered the IED.

Following the explosion, additional forces were dispatched to the area, and efforts were made to evacuate the bodies from the forest. The attack has prompted a massive search operation in the region. In a related incident, a confrontation between security forces and Naxalites is currently unfolding in the forests near Amjhar and Muhkot villages, within the jurisdiction of the Khallari police station. According to Dhamtari Superintendent of Police Anjaneya Varshney, several Naxalites have likely been injured in this encounter. This incident underscores the ongoing conflict and challenges faced by security forces in the region as they continue to confront the persistent Naxalite threat. The loss of the two CoBRA personnel highlights the dangers faced by those on the front lines in maintaining security and combating insurgent activities in Chhattisgarh.
