CBI Arrests Arvind Kejriwal; his bail plea has been revoked!
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal faces a significant legal challenge. He appeared in the Supreme Court regarding his bail plea in the Excise Policy money laundering case, and the same was withdrawn
Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21, with an official arrest. It follows the Delhi High Court’s decision on June 25 to stay the trial court’s order granting him bail in response to an ED plea. Consequently, Kejriwal challenged this high court order in the Supreme Court. Yesterday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recorded Kejriwal’s statement in Tihar Jail concerning the same case. The CBI, represented by Special Public Prosecutor DP Singh, has now sought formal custody to interrogate and arrest Kejriwal, asserting that investigation is their prerogative. In parallel, Kejriwal was produced at the Rouse Avenue Court for a hearing related to the liquor policy case.
Meanwhile, political tensions escalated as Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva urged the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to question the Congress over the case, highlighting that the Congress lodged the initial complaint. He asked why the Congress did not withdraw their complaint despite allying elections. The Delhi High Court’s order stressed that the trial court should have recorded satisfaction of the twin conditions under section 45 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) before granting bail. This ongoing legal battle underscores the complexity and high stakes involved, with significant political and legal implications for Kejriwal and his party.
