CAS doesn’t appears to be inclined to look at Phogat’s way!

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has delayed the verdict on Vinesh Phogat’s appeal until August 16, 6:00 pm Paris time, citing exceptional circumstances

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has delayed the verdict on Vinesh Phogat’s appeal until August 16, 6:00 pm Paris time, citing exceptional circumstances. The said verdict has been postponed for third time. Vinesh had appealed for a joint silver medal in the women’s 50kg freestyle wrestling after being disqualified in the gold medal at the Paris Olympics. The CAS stated that the delay was due to Article 18 of the CAS Arbitration Rules for the Olympic Games, which allows for an extension of the time limit in exceptional cases. The matter has been pending for almost a week, with Vinesh appealing against her disqualification on August 7.

Vinesh was disqualified after failing to meet the weight cut on the morning of her gold medal about being overweight by 100 grams. Despite initially meeting the weight cut, she measured 2.7kgs above the eligibility criteria, leading to her disqualification. The CAS had agreed to hear Vinesh’s plea for a joint silver medal but has delayed the final verdict. The delay caused frustration for Vinesh, who announced her retirement from the sport after the disqualification. The CAS has allowed all parties to submit their final applications; a decision is expected on August 16. The appeal outcome will determine whether Vinesh will receive a joint silver medal.
