Canada to print health warnings on every cigarette
Every box of cigarettes sold in most parts of the world has health warnings to dissuade buyers from consuming tobacco. However, Canada has gone a step further and decided to put this advisory on every single cigarette hereon with an aim to reduce tobacco consumption, as per CNN. Canada’s Health officials made a statement saying, “The new Tobacco Products Appearance, Packaging, and Labelling Regulations will be part of the Government of Canada’s continued efforts to help adults who smoke to quit, to protect youth and non-tobacco users from nicotine addiction, and to further reduce the appeal of tobacco.”
Apart from issuing health warnings, countries around the world have taken different steps to spread awareness about the health hazards of tobacco on the occasion of World Tobacco Day, which falls on May 31. Canada, however, has become the first country to take this step and set an objective to reduce tobacco consumption to less than 5 percent by 2035. Warnings like ‘Tobacco harms children,” “Cigarettes are a cause of leukemia,” and “Poison is in every puff” will be printed on all cigarettes to appeal to smokers.
