BYD has unveiled its latest plug-in hybrid technology with a record low fuel consumption
BYD has unveiled its latest plug-in hybrid technology, achieving a record low fuel consumption of 2.9 liters per 100 kilometers (62.1 miles) on depleted batteries.
BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu made this announcement at an event in Xian, Shaanxi province, where the company’s first automaking factory is located. The new technology allows for a driving range of over 2,000 kilometers with a fully charged battery and a full gasoline tank. This advancement is expected to strengthen BYD’s position in the market further, building on the success of its previous generation plug-in hybrids. The earlier technology, featured in models like the Qin Plus DM-i sedan and Song Plug DM-i SUV, offered a range of dozens of kilometers on batteries and fuel consumption of 3.8 liters per 100 kilometers using the gasoline engine alone.
BYD’s plug-in hybrids, priced from 79,800 yuan ($11,011), have been a major driver of the company’s sales over the past three years, with 3.6 million units sold. This new generation of technology is set to enhance the efficiency and appeal of BYD’s hybrid vehicles, continuing the brand’s rapid growth in the automotive market.
