British actor Daniel Caltagirone, known for his roles in “The Pianist” and “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider,” has praised Indian filmmaking, stating that Western cinema is declining while Indian films are gaining global recognition. He believes that Hollywood has lost its direction due to the rise of streaming services. Caltagirone, who made his Indian cinema debut in Pa Ranjith’s “Thangalaan” alongside Vikram, expressed his admiration for Indian storytelling, calling it “exciting, colourful, fun, and passionate.”
He noted that Indian cinema is having a significant impact globally, with stars like Deepika Padukone presenting at the Oscars. The actor also commended Pa Ranjith as a social commentator and expressed interest in working with other Indian directors, including SS Rajamouli. Caltagirone praised his “Thangalaan” co-star Vikram, saying he would like to reunite with him for future projects, citing a deep trust and understanding between them. “Thangalaan” is scheduled to have its Hindi premiere in North India on September 6, after its worldwide release on August 15.
