BJP celebrates its dominance in Rajya Sabha Election; bagged 8 seats in UP
Highlights of the 2024 Rajya Sabha Election Results:
The outcome of the Rajya Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Himachal Pradesh was announced on Tuesday following the conclusion of voting. A total of 15 Rajya Sabha seats across these states were contested on the same day. Among the 56 seats contested overall, 41 members secured their positions in the upper house uncontested.
State-Wise Updates
- Elections were conducted for the remaining seats in the Upper House of Parliament, with 10 in Uttar Pradesh, four in Karnataka, and one in Himachal Pradesh.
- In Karnataka, the Congress claimed victory in all three seats it contested, while the Bharatiya Janata Party secured one seat. Candidates from Congress Ajay Maken, Dr Syed Naseer Hussain, and GC Chandrashekhar stood victorious with 47, 46, and 46 votes, respectively. BJP candidate Narayana Bandage clinched the sole seat for the party.
- In Himachal Pradesh, BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan won the Rajya Sabha seat in the Congress-ruled state. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu alleged the “kidnapping” of several MLAs by the CRPF and Haryana Police, citing the appearance of five to six MLAs in Panchkula.
- In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP secured eight out of the 10 Rajya Sabha seats contested. In comparison, the Samajwadi Party won the remaining two seats. Earlier objections raised by the SP with the Election Commission caused a delay in the counting process, initially scheduled for 5 pm.
