The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has seen a significant increase in earnings from the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2023. According to the annual report for 2022-23, BCCI earned a surplus of 5,120 crore in IPL 2023, a 116% increase from the previous edition. The total revenue generated from IPL 2023 stood at 11,769 crore, with media rights revenue rising to 8,744 crore. This growth is attributed to new media rights and sponsorship deals, including a 48,390 crore deal for the 2023-27 cycle. BCCI also earned 2,117 crore from franchisees and 847 crore from sponsorships.
The cricket board’s total bank balance stood at 16,493.2 crore at the end of FY23, a surge of 10,991.29 crore from the previous year. The Women’s Premier League (WPL), which started in 2023, generated 636 crore for BCCI through media rights, franchise fees, and sponsorships, with 259 crore spent on the same. The annual report also revealed that BCCI paid 4,670 crore to IPL franchises from the central pool in IPL 2023, a significant increase from the previous year. Additionally, BCCI paid a GST of 2,038 crore during FY23 and FY24.
