Bawaal Controversy: Jewish Body Demands the Film’s Removal
The Bawaal controversy has backed director Nitish Tiwari and the film’s production management into a corner as a Jewish body has asked Amazon Prime Video to remove the film from their platform due to the Auschwitz scene in the movie, which depicts the horrors of the Holocaust. A Jewish organisation called the Simon Wiesenthal Centre has raised objections over this scene and called this a “banal trivialisation of the suffering and systematic murder of millions of victims of the Nazi Holocaust.” Other senior members of the organisation have also called the film insensitive.
Nitesh Tiwari, along with actors Varun Dhawan and Jhanvi Kapoor, are yet to make a statement on this Bawaal controversy. However, they have defended the film on earlier occasions after the film also received a fair share of criticism from the domestic audience as well. Tiwari said that while it is well within everybody’s right to criticise a filmmaker’s work, it is “hurtful” to criticise the filmmaker’s “intentions.” While this new development has put Prime Video in a fix, it still remains unclear whether they will cut the particular scenes in question or remove the film altogether.
