Atiq Ahmed murder : Supreme Court to hear plea requesting for an independent investigation
Atiq Ahmed murder : The murder of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed sent shockwaves across the country after he and his brother Ashraf were gunned down in front of the camera by three men. This incident has sparked many political attacks by opposition leaders who have been demanding an independent probe on this matter. As per ANI, the Supreme Court has now agreed to hear a plea that demands an inquiry that would be free from any influence from the state and central government. This plea is set to be heard on Monday, April 24.
Advocate Vishal Tiwari, who has filed the plea, has also demanded an investigation into the other 183 encounters that have taken place ever since CM Yogi Adityanath took charge of the UP government back in 2017. It was recently reported that Atiq Ahmed’s wife, Shaista Parveen, has now come under UP police’s radar for her alleged involvement in her late husband’s crime syndicate. Prior to Atiq Ahmed’s killing, his son Asad was also eliminated along with aide Ghulam, as they were attempting to attack the convoy in Prayagraj that was transporting Atiq Ahmed in order to free him. Major updates are expected in this SC hearing which will decide whether an independent investigation is required or not for this case.
