Atal Bihari Vajpayee Death Anniversary: PM Modi Pays Tribute
On the occasion of Atal Bihari Vajpayee death anniversary, PM Narendra Modi has paid his homage to the former Prime Minister and BJP stalwart at the ‘Sadaiv Atal’ Memorial. He was accompanied by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other leaders from the BJP. PM Modi wrote on X, “I join the 140 crore people of India in paying homage to the remarkable Atal Ji on his Punya Tithi. India benefitted greatly from his leadership. He played a pivotal role in boosting our nation’s progress and in taking it to the 21st century in a wide range of sectors.”
President Draupadi Murmu also marked her presence on the occasion of Atal Bihari Vajpayee death anniversary and paid tributes. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also paid their respects at the venue. Atal Bihari Vajpayee first became the Prime Minister of India in 1998, after which his government was dissolved after a No-Confidence Motion. He won the following elections and came back to power again in 1999, and remained India’s Prime Minister till 2004. Some of his major achievements as Prime Minister include carrying out multiple nuclear tests and making India a nuclear power in Pokhran II (after Pokhran I in 1974), the Golden Quadrilateral project, and resolving the Kaveri River dispute, among many others. Vajpayee passed away in 2018 in AIIMS hospital in Delhi.
