Ashes 2023: England Bounces Back on Day 4
Day 4 of the first test match of Ashes 2023 has borne fruits for England, as they have torn through Australia’s top order. Having registered a mediocre total for Australia to chase, England was initially on the back foot. But they have resiliently bounced back as Ollie Robinson got David Warner out just when he was getting settled on the crease. Their experienced pacer Stuart Broad then struck hard by getting Australia’s two key batsmen – Marcus Labuschagne and Steve Smith back on the crease, both caught by Johnny Bairstow.
However, Usman Khawaja has hanged on to the pitch by remaining not out at 34, when Australia is already 107 for three. Skipper Pat Cummins made an interesting decision by sending out their pacer Scott Boland as the nightwatchman along with Khawaja, as they will be looking to get some quick runs on the board without losing the rest of their batsmen early. They still need a 174 runs to win, and with three wickets already down, the match may just tilt in England’s favour. From here on, the final result of the first Ashes 2023 test depends on whether Khawaja and Boland can get some quick runs on the board, or England sends them back to the pavilion early as well.
