Ashes 2023: Australia Defeats England, Clinches a 1-0 Lead

The first test of Ashes 2023 in Edgbaston, England, witnessed a blazing contest between Australia and England, where the former has emerged victorious. They were on the back foot on Day 4 when England dismissed David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith in quick successions. However, their opener Usman Khawaja stood tough with the middle order and scored a praiseworthy 65 runs before being knocked over by England skipper Ben Stokes. However, their middle order barely managed to push forward their scoreboard but soon fell short of finishing the innings.

Australia skipper Pat Cummins himself led charge in the end, with spinner Nathan Lyon on the other end. Lyon reliably supported Cummins, who scored a classy 44 runs and finally crossed the finish lines. Australia reached their target of 281 runs with just two wickets to spare. The Pat Cummins-led Australia team thereby declared their dominance in test cricket after having recently defeated India in the WTC final. While that match has greatly helped the team to get used to England’s ground conditions, this test win will get Australia soaring with confidence to win Ashes 2023.
