Ashes 2023 5th Test: Match Remains Evenly Poised on Day 2

Cricket fans are getting to witness the vintage rivalry between Australia and England in the Ashes 2023 5th test match as the two sides clash to clinch the final match of this series. While Australia is playing for a series win, England is battling for a win to draw this series after losing the first two matches. They made a remarkable comeback by winning the third test, but the fourth match was drawn due to rain, and they still trail in this series 2-1.
On the first day of this much anticipated Ashes 2023 5th test, England scored a decent 283 runs, thanks to the efforts of Harry Brook and Ben Duckett. While Duckett scored a respectable 41, Brook played an excellent knock by scoring 85 runs. Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali also contributed well by scoring 36 and 34 runs, respectively to somehow push their score near the 300-mark. Australia responded with a dependable opening partnership between David Warner and Usman Khawaja before the former was dismissed for 24. However, Khawaja kept his cool and reached 47 runs before getting caught LBW by England’s seasoned pacer Stuart Broad.

Thereon, England ran through Australia’s middle order without letting anyone get set out in the middle, except for Steve Smith. Smith batted exceptionally well with the lower order and scored a commendable 71 runs. Aussie skipper Pat Cummins and Todd Murphy also made essential contributions by scoring 36 and 34, respectively, and Australia eventually reached 295 runs before getting all out. They now have a 12-run lead over England. Ashes 2023 5th test thus remains evenly balanced on Day 2 of the match.
