Arun Govil Slams ‘Adipurush’ for Culture Misrepresentation
Veteran TV actor Arun Govil, who had essayed Lord Rama’s role in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, has pulled no punches in criticising Adipurush makers for misrepresentation of Indian culture while exercising creative liberty. He stated about how the film’s makers were aware of the backlash they would receive after the controversy around its VFX in a conversation with News18. He also said that the decision to keep one seat reserved for Lord Hanuman was nothing but a ‘tactic’ to get people in the theatres, while also meeting Chief Ministers of the BJP-ruled states to promote their film, “because they knew something was going to go wrong.”
Arun Govil added, “We should not fool around or take liberties with God. Indians are very sensitive people about their religion. Why do they want to fool around? Why do you want to touch God in this fashion, and what was the need for it? There are so many other subjects, do your creative liberties there.” Arun Govil was widely acclaimed for his performance in Ramayan. On the other hand, Adipurush has faced a huge backlash right from the VFX and character looks to the nature of language in its dialogues. While director Om Raut and writer Manoj Muntashir Shukla have taken to edit some of the dialogues of the film, the film has witnessed a major fall in box office collection over the last few days.
