Are fake road accidents and money extortion a new type of scam?
Road safety has been a major challenge in this country for decades and is yet to be overcome. Most of us have experienced road rage at some point and witnessed rash driving and perhaps even accidents on the road. However, it appears that some con artists are using this issue and creating fake road accidents as a trick to extort money from people driving on the roads. While there are no officially recorded cases of these incidents, it is likely that many people may have experienced this themselves.
These con artists are said to have children in their own cars and deliberately take rash turns around their target car. They collectively raise screams and pretend to be in danger in an attempt to garner road attention. Whether their own car has experienced any form of damage or not, they escalate the situation once a crowd forms around them, which further puts pressure on the person who is targeted. These con artists then demand money as consolation after hurling accusations at their target and using children to gain sympathy. This ultimately compels the targeted person to give in to pressure and pay them to avoid further escalation of the situation.
Incidents like these may not be commonly experienced by people yet, but it would be reassuring to see police personnel be on guard against such con artists and look into these matters. It would also be wise for civilians to take all necessary precautions to shield yourself from such a situation. One can always opt to buy CCTV cameras that can be attached to cars, as they will record any such situation and can be later used as proof of safety.
