Apple introduces VisionOS 2 packed with enhancements
At WWDC 2024, Apple announced the global rollout of its Vision Pro headset and introduced VisionOS 2.
The Vision Pro will be available in China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore starting June 28, followed by Germany, France, Australia, the UK, and Canada on July 12. VisionOS 2 brings several enhancements, including a significant update to the Photos app, which now uses machine learning to convert 2D images into spatial photos with a single tap. The Mac Virtual Display feature has also been updated, offering comprehensive and ultrawide virtual monitor options equivalent to two side-by-side 4K monitors, which will be available later this year.
With VisionOS 2 Travel mode has been expanded to work on train rides and airplane modes. SharePlay now supports Personas, allowing users to watch videos, collaborate on work, and interact with other Vision Pro users in a virtual 3D space. A new tap gesture has been introduced to access the control center easily. Apple has partnered with Canon to create a new spatial lens for the EOS R7 DSLR camera, enabling enhanced spatial video capabilities. These spatial videos can be edited in Final Cut Pro and uploaded to Vimeo via visionOS. Additionally, Apple Immersive Video, a dedicated 180-degree 8K format, has gained new partners, including Red Bull and Black Magic.
