Apple brings Emergency SOS service in Australia, New Zealand

Apple has announced that it is now making the Emergency SOS service available in Australia and New Zealand via satellite, as per India TV. This service allows iOS users to make contact with emergency services outside of the network coverage area and will be available on all the iPhone 14 models in the two countries. It will be a great help to anyone who is travelling off the grid to let their family and friends know about their location using the Find My app.

Michelle Rowland, Australia’s Minister of Communications, said, “Australians know full well the importance of remaining connected in regional, rural, and remote areas, particularly when they need emergency services. The ability to contact Triple Zero with Emergency SOS via satellite when there is no mobile coverage is a strong backup to keep Australians connected in an emergency.” However, to use these services, all Apple users need to have iOS 16.4 or a newer version. The United States, Canada, France, Germany, Portugal and Belgium are some of the countries that also have Emergency SOS services.
