Angelo Mathews vs Shakib Al Hasan: What Happened
The Angelo Mathews vs Shakib Al Hasan controversy has rapidly gripped the internet after yesterday’s World Cup 2023 match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh witnessed heated moments between the cricketers. Sri Lanka batted in the first innings and soon found themselves in trouble as Bangladeshi bowlers ran through their top order. As the experienced Angelo Mathews took to the pitch and got ready to bat, he discovered a problem in his helmet and signaled his team’s dressing room to get him a new one.
However, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan invoked the time-out rule, wherein a batsman can be dismissed if he takes more than two minutes to get ready to bat. Although Mathews tried to explain the reason for his delay, Hasan advocated his dismissal, which had to be granted by the umpires as per the rules. The Angelo Mathews vs Shakib Al Hasan controversy ignited a huge criticism by former cricketing legends and fans against Hasan, as it goes against the spirit of the game.
Mathews’ wicket made a huge difference to Sri Lanka’s score, which somehow reached 279 on the back of Asalanka’s century. Ironically, it was Angelo Mathews who dismissed Shakib Al Hasan in the second innings. Bangladesh barely managed to win the match but remain eliminated from the competition.
