The Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) removed Rajesh Shah from his position as deputy leader of the party following the involvement of his son, Mihir Shah, in a fatal hit-and-run case. This decision came three days after the incident in Worli, where a 45-year-old woman was killed and her husband injured. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde ordered Shah’s removal. The development occurred a day after Mihir Shah’s arrest by Mumbai Police. Mihir, along with Rajesh Shah’s driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, has been charged under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including section 105 for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

CCTV footage from the incident on the morning of July 7 shows Kaveri Nakhwa, who was a pillion rider on a two-wheeler, being dragged by a BMW car for 1.5 kilometers before the vehicle stopped. Mihir and Bidawat then took her off the bonnet, placed her on the flat asphalt, swapped their seats, and, while reversing, Bidawat ran over the victim before fleeing the scene. In response, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray called for the incident to be treated as murder rather than a hit-and-run. “This case should not be treated as a hit-and-run incident. It is a case of murder, and we demand that it should be treated like that,” Thackeray stated.
