A dramatic scene unfolded at a police station in Jaipur when a 2-year-old boy, Prithvi, refused to leave his kidnapper, Tanuj Chahar, 14 months after his abduction.

The child clung to Chahar, crying profusely, as police tried to separate them. The emotional moment was captured in a video, showing Prithvi, also known as Kukku, tightly holding onto Chahar as they both wept. Chahar, a 33-year-old suspended police officer, had abducted Prithvi to coerce his mother, Poonam Chaudhary, into submission. He had demanded that she leave her home and come with him, and when she refused, he kidnapped her child. Chahar used his knowledge of police procedures to evade detection, constantly changing his appearance and location. The Jaipur police finally arrested Chahar in Aligarh after an elaborate operation spanning multiple cities. He had been living with the child in a hut he built near the Yamuna River in Vrindavan.

The police handed over Prithvi to his mother, and Chahar has been charged. The case highlights the emotional trauma caused by kidnapping and the lengths to which perpetrators will go to achieve their goals. The police operation involved a special team that traversed Mathura, Agra, and Vrindavan, ultimately leading to Chahar’s capture after an intense chase. The reunion between Prithvi and his mother was emotional, with the child initially refusing to let go of his kidnapper. The incident raises questions about the psychological impact of such experiences on young children and the need for support and counselling to help them recover.
