A Disheartening Ticket Sale for Coldplay Fans in India
The recent ticket sale for Coldplay’s upcoming concert in Mumbai left many fans feeling frustrated and disappointed
For some, this was a second chance to see their favorite band live, but technical glitches and a long virtual queue ruined their plans. Last Sunday afternoon, eager fans logged into various devices, hoping to secure tickets for the much-anticipated event. However, the booking process quickly turned chaotic. One Bengaluru resident expressed his dismay, recounting that despite being logged into four devices and entering payment details on BookMyShow, the booking did not commence as scheduled at noon on September 22. By the time he managed to log in again, there were over 142,000 people ahead of him in the queue. “The app crashed just before the sale started, and I faced multiple OTP issues,” he shared, highlighting the technical difficulties many encountered. In contrast, a Mumbai fan managed to secure four tickets despite her own struggles with the booking system. She and her sister had been ready since 10:45 AM, but like many others, they experienced delays. “At 12:40 PM, I saw that around 400,000 people were ahead of me for the January 18 show,” she said, describing the madness of fans scrambling to help each other get tickets.
The situation escalated when Coldplay announced an additional concert date for January 21, 2025, due to overwhelming demand. While this news excited some, others were left feeling defeated after the initial ticketing chaos. The Bengaluru fan admitted he didn’t even check for the new date, feeling too disheartened after spending 45 minutes on the original sale. As ticket prices ranged from ₹2,500 to ₹35,000, the emergence of resellers further complicated matters. Many tickets are now being sold at inflated prices, with some reaching up to ₹1 lakh on resale platforms like Viagogo. A petition has surfaced urging Coldplay to take action against ticket reselling, emphasizing that loyal fans are often left disillusioned by resellers profiting from their passion for music. Overall, the ticket sale experience for Coldplay’s concert serves as a reminder of the challenges fans face in securing access to live events, amplifying the need for a more equitable ticketing process.
