A Delegation of 21 Opposition MPs Visits Manipur

The Opposition MPs have been relentlessly protesting against the Government regarding the Manipur issue, which has brought the Monsoon Session to a standstill. To take note of the current situation in the state, a delegation of 21 of these MPs has now flown to Manipur, as per ANI. They have stated on record that this delegation will be observing the on-ground situation to formulate solutions and present them to the Government and the Parliament as well. On the other hand, the BJP leaders have advised these Opposition MPs against making statements that can further trigger the sensitive situation in Manipur.

The violence in Manipur has continued for nearly three months now after the Metei community was given the ST (Scheduled Tribes) status. While the entry of CRPF in Manipur stabilised the situation on the ground, the recent video of two women facing sexual harassment and assault by a mob further deteriorated the conditions in the state. However, leaders of the two communities have been engaging in rounds of discussion to come to a resolution, and the Government has expressed their confidence that Manipur would soon return to normalcy.
