A bomb explosion rocked Bengaluru’s Rameshwaram Cafe, causing injuries to at least ten individuals. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar stated that the perpetrator, captured on CCTV, had placed an improvised explosive device (IED) in a bag at the café. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed the IED detonation and revealed that the suspect believed to be 28 to 30 years old, left the bag after obtaining a coupon for Rava Idli without consuming anything. Police sources informed the Bengaluru Chief Minister that only one IED was found on-site. The culprit, seen taking a token at the cash counter, is currently under investigation along with the cashier.
While the motive behind the incident remains unclear, Bengaluru authorities are conducting thorough investigations. Siddaramaiah emphasized that despite the blast’s severity, injuries sustained by both staff and patrons were not life-threatening. The injured individuals include Farooq, Deepanshu, Swarnamba, Mohan, Nagashree, Momi, Balaram Krishnan, Navya, and Srinivas. A case has been filed at the HAL Police Station under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosive Substances Act. CCTV footage depicts the chaotic scene preceding and following the blast, with individuals fleeing the café amidst smoke and debris. Emergency response teams swiftly arrived at the site to manage the aftermath and conduct a thorough investigation.
