Former Andhra Pradesh CM Kiran Kumar Reddy joins BJP
The election season has kicked off with a full swing as BJP and Congress clash with each other for the upcoming Karnataka assembly elections. The current Bommai-led BJP government has been citing a number of developmental projects that they have launched for public interest even as the opposition’s attacks increase every day. In an unexpected development, former Andhra Pradesh CM and Congress leader Kiran Kumar Reddy has joined the BJP in the presence of Union Minister Prahlad Joshi.
Kiran Kumar Reddy and his family had been associated with Indian National Congress for a long time, which includes his tenure as the CM. However, he had previously resigned from Congress in 2014 as well following the bifurcation of the state of Andhra Pradesh. He has been a staunch critic of this decision and went on to form his own party called Jai Samaikyandra Party, which was eventually disbanded after electoral losses. Reddy had joined Congress again in 2018 since his own party failed to go the distance.
Given that the Chief Ministerial candidate of BJP in the upcoming term hasn’t been announced yet, there are high speculations regarding Kiran Kumar Reddy becoming the CM face for BJP. More details on this development are expected to arrive soon.
