OpenAI has officially launched ChatGPT Search, an integrated web search feature within ChatGPT that promises to make real-time information more accessible. This new capability allows ChatGPT to search the internet to provide up-to-date information on various topics, such as sports scores, news, stock market updates, weather, and maps. Users can let ChatGPT decide when to search or manually activate the search option for any query. OpenAI explains that ChatGPT Search combines the ease of natural language interaction with the benefits of real-time, accurate data. The company has collaborated with multiple news and data providers, bringing enhanced visuals and improved categorization for topics like news and weather.
Additionally, ChatGPT responses now feature links to sources, accessible via a “Sources” button, which opens a sidebar with relevant references. Feedback from the SearchGPT prototype and extensive discussions with media partners helped refine the feature. Looking ahead, OpenAI plans to expand ChatGPT Search’s capabilities, with particular improvements expected in categories like shopping and travel. The feature is available immediately on chatgpt.com, as well as in the ChatGPT desktop and mobile apps, for ChatGPT Plus, Team, and SearchGPT waitlist users. Access will be gradually rolled out to Enterprise, Edu, and free-tier users over the coming months, making ChatGPT Search widely available.
