PM Modi wishes the Glorious Chess Olympiad Champions

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with India’s chess champions to celebrate their historic double gold triumph at the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest

In a remarkable achievement, both the Indian men’s and women’s teams secured their first-ever gold medals in the prestigious event. The men’s team defeated Slovenia, while the women’s team triumphed over Azerbaijan in the final round. PM Modi hailed the young chess prodigies, including stars like D Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi, R Praggnanandhaa, and R Vaishali, who played pivotal roles in securing India’s victory.

Gukesh stood out as a key player, winning 10 out of 11 games in the Open category, helping the men’s team finish with an outstanding 21 out of 22 points. During the interaction, the players gifted the Prime Minister a chessboard, and Modi was captivated by a quick game played between Praggnanandhaa and Erigaisi. The victory is a landmark moment in Indian chess, highlighting the nation’s rising dominance in the sport.
