Yogeshwar Dutt Slams Vinesh Phogat’s Politically-Criticizing Rant Over Olympic Disqualification
Yogeshwar Dutt, 2012 London Olympics bronze medallist, criticized Vinesh Phogat’s stance on her Paris Olympics disqualification, calling it “the right call.” Vinesh Phogat was disqualified for failing to meet weigh-in criteria, costing India a potential medal. She blamed the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and its president, PT Usha, alleging politics. Yogeshwar Dutt condemned Vinesh’s conspiracy claims, saying, “She should have apologized for her mistake. Instead, she blamed the Prime Minister.”
He criticized her role in the wrestlers’ protest against former Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Vinesh’s disqualification led to her retirement and an unsuccessful appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Despite the disappointment, she received a hero’s welcome upon returning to India and later joined the Congress party. As Haryana prepares for state assembly elections, Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification remains a contentious issue. Her allegations and subsequent political involvement have sparked debate, with Yogeshwar Dutt’s criticism adding fuel to the fire.
