Elated by their impressive start at the Paris Paralympics, Indian para-shuttlers secured eight victories in their opening singles matches. Tokyo silver medallist Suhas Yathiraj led the charge, winning his match in 22 minutes. Sukant Kadam staged a remarkable comeback, while Nitesh Kumar, Palak Kohli, Thulasimathi Murugesan, Manisha Ramadass, and Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan cleared the first hurdle. The Indian contingent’s strong start was highlighted by gritty performances, including Sukant’s comeback from an opening game setback.

Suhas breezed past his opponent, while Tarun, Nitesh, and Thulasimathi also secured victories. Palak eased to a win, and Manisha registered a hard-fought victory. However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing, as Mandeep Kaur and Manasi Joshi lost their respective matches. The mixed doubles duo of Sivarajan Solaimalai and Nithya Sre also fell in straight games. Despite this, the Indian para-shuttlers’ impressive start marks a stylish beginning to their campaign at the Paralympics.
