Germans appear to be afflicted by the lack of capable ones to ease visas for Indians!

Germany has announced a significant reduction in the processing time for long-term work visas for Indian citizens, from nine months to just two weeks. This move aims to meet the country’s urgent need for skilled workers. According to Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, the government has around 6 lakh vacancies, and the delay in work visas has impacted the training of skilled workers. The German Economic Institute’s 2023 data revealed that Germany issued 80,000 work visas till June 2024, with 50% going to experienced workers. The Institute also warned that unfilled jobs could cost the German economy €74 billion by 2027. Indian companies with significant investments in Germany rely heavily on quick visas to bring in specialists, and this move is expected to benefit them.
The reduced processing time is a welcome development for Indians seeking to work in Germany. The country has been actively seeking to attract skilled workers from non-EU states, and this move is part of that effort. Earlier this month, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with German MPs Jurgen Hardt and Ralph Brinkhaus, discussing the growth of ties between the two countries. This development is expected to strengthen the economic relations between India and Germany, with Germany seeking to tap into India’s skilled workforce to meet its labor needs. The reduced processing time will enable skilled Indian workers to contribute to the German economy sooner, benefiting both countries.
