Neeraj Chopra registers an impressive throw!
India’s Neeraj Chopra, the defending Olympic and world champion, made a strong statement in the javelin throw qualification round at the Paris Olympics
India’s Neeraj Chopra, the defending Olympic and world champion, made a strong statement in the javelin throw qualification round at the Paris Olympics. With his first throw, Neeraj soared over the qualification mark of 84m, achieving a season’s best throw of 89.34m. This impressive performance secured his spot in the final, scheduled for Thursday. Neeraj’s throw was the longest in qualifying and his personal best for the year, surpassing his previous record of 88.36m set in May. His dominance was evident, with his throw being 0.71m clear of Grenada’s Anderson Peters, who secured the second spot in the final.
Unfortunately, India’s Kishore Jena failed to join Neeraj in the final, managing only a best throw of 80.73m. Jena’s performance was underwhelming, considering his previous achievements, including an Asian Games silver medal. His form in 2024 had been struggling, and this display was a far cry from his impressive showings in the past. Other top throwers, including Germany’s Julian Weber, Czechia’s Jakub Vadlejch, and Kenya’s Julius Yego, also delivered remarkable performances, securing their spots in the final. Notably, Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem and Grenada’s Anderson Peters uncorked massive throws, earning their places in the final alongside Neeraj. The stage is set for an exciting final, with the world’s top javelin throwers vying for the top spot.
