Who knew that awareness could be abused in such a way? – minors acted legally against parenting!
A few years ago, a 21-year-old daughter and her 8-year-old brother filed a police case against their parents in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
The incident occurred on October 25, 2021, after the children were scolded by their parents for excessive use of mobile phones and television. The siblings sought help at Chandan Nagar Police Station, stating that their parents’ punishing mediums had now turned physical. The police registered a case against the parents, invoking multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 342 (wrongful confinement), 294 (uttering obscenities), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (common intention), along with sections 75 (cruelty to child) and 82 (corporal punishment) of the Juvenile Justice Act.
These charges could lead to a prison term of up to seven years for the parents. This unusual incident has stirred local and national conversations about parenting and children’s rights. It highlights the complex dynamics within families and the legal implications of parental discipline in India. The case continues to be a topic of debate, reflecting broader societal concerns about children’s screen time and parental authority.
