Elon Musk recently expressed his strong opposition to puberty blockers for minors, attributing his child Xavier’s transition to what he calls the ‘woke mind virus.’ In a conversation with Canadian psychologist Dr. Jordan Peterson, Musk shared how he felt misled into agreeing to the use of these blockers for his child, now known as Vivian Jenna Wilson. Musk’s remarks came amid a broader critique of medical practices related to gender transition in minors. Musk, who is the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, described his experience during the COVID-19 pandemic when he was pressured into signing consent forms under the threat of his child’s potential suicide if he did not comply. He denounced this as a lie and expressed his anger toward those who advocate for such treatments, calling the promotion of puberty blockers “incredibly evil” and suggesting that those responsible should face legal consequences. He also criticized the term “gender-affirming care,” labeling it a misleading euphemism.
According to Musk, his son Xavier is essentially “dead,” referring to the transition as being caused by the “woke mind virus.” Musk’s statements reflect his belief that these treatments are harmful and that children should not be subjected to irreversible procedures. Peterson supported Musk’s views, arguing that the higher suicide rates often cited in favor of these treatments are more likely due to underlying mental health issues rather than gender dysphoria itself. He criticized the medical community for promoting treatments without robust evidence of their benefits. Vivian Jenna Wilson, who came out as transgender in June 2022, has severed ties with Musk, stating she no longer wishes to be associated with him. Adding to the debate, author J.K. Rowling has voiced skepticism about early medical interventions for gender dysphoria, suggesting that allowing children to go through puberty naturally is often the best approach. Musk agreed, stating that while children may face identity crises during puberty, making them infertile with puberty blockers is deeply wrong. He believes that fully informed adults should make any transition decisions.
