Microsoft recently experienced a global outage that led to significant disruptions across various sectors, notably air travel. Major airlines in India, such as Akasa, IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet, encountered operational challenges. Similarly, US low-cost carriers like Frontier Airlines, Allegiant, and Sun Country reported issues affecting their services. This outage impacted airlines and disrupted banking operations and the stock market. Social media users reported long queues at Australian stores like Woolworths due to payment system failures and difficulties accessing financial institutions such as the National Australia Bank. Delhi airport announced temporary disruptions, advising passengers to stay in touch with their airlines for updated information. The outage affected many airlines, including American Airlines, Delta Airlines, United Airlines, Ryan Air, Air France, Cathay Pacific, Euro wings, KLM, Scandinavian Airlines, and Vueling. Airports impacted New Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Berlin, Prague, Amsterdam, Madrid, Barcelona, London, Edinburgh, Brussels, Sydney, Hong Kong, Lisbon, and Singapore.
Millions of Windows users globally experienced the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), causing unexpected computer shutdowns or restarts. These errors, also known as black screen errors or STOP code errors, led to repeated restarts, resulting in lost unsaved data and wasted time. Affected users saw the message: “Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We’re just collecting some error info, and then we’ll restart for you.” Microsoft’s cloud services, particularly Azure, faced issues around 6 pm ET on Thursday. It led to widespread service interruptions, impacting various sectors and essential services. Users of Microsoft services such as PowerBI, Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365 admin center, Microsoft Purview, and Viva Engage reported significant disruptions. Microsoft acknowledged the issues and stated that continuous improvements were being made while mitigation actions were taken. The company confirmed that the problems with Azure services and Microsoft 365 apps were being resolved.
A week ago, CrowdStrike was recognized as a renowned security service provider. It’s a technical paradigm that we are looking at. Every global giant has witnessed and suffered downtimes. Some cause irreparable damage, while some lead to a major setback. It is obvious that different levels of inconvenience can be observed, after all it’s a manmade piece of business.
