The Asian American Voter Survey (AAVS), released recently, has indicated a significant shift in support among Indian Americans toward President Joe Biden compared to the 2020 presidential elections. According to the survey, 46% of Indian Americans intend to vote for Biden in the upcoming November 2024 elections, marking a notable decrease from the 65% support he received in 2020. On the other hand, support for former President Donald Trump among Indian Americans saw a slight increase, rising from 28% in 2020 to 30% in 2024. The survey also highlighted that while Biden continues to lead among Asian American voters overall, his support has dipped by 8% since 2020. In contrast, Trump’s support has marginally increased by 1%.
Additionally, 5% of respondents indicated they would likely vote for another candidate, up from just 1% in the previous election cycle. The remaining Asian American voters surveyed were undecided or did not disclose their voting intentions. Key issues influencing Asian American voters, including Indian Americans, were identified as jobs and the economy, inflation, healthcare, crime, education, Social Security, Medicare, housing costs, national security, gun control, and immigration. These concerns reflect broader issues impacting communities across the United States. The survey underscores the evolving political landscape among Indian Americans and other Asian American groups, highlighting their growing significance as a voting bloc in national elections.
