Mumbai experiencing adverse effects of Heavy Rainfall

Heavy rainfall in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra has disrupted daily life, causing waterlogged roads, halted train services, and disrupted flight operations

The downpours, which included heavy overnight showers, are expected to continue throughout the week. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall in Mumbai for July 8, predicting ongoing heavy rains in Maharashtra over the next three to four days, impacting the Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada regions from July 8 to July 10, 2024. Due to the severe weather, local authorities have taken precautionary measures. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced the closure of all BMC, government, and private schools and colleges in Mumbai for the afternoon session. This decision was influenced by the expected 4.40-meter high tide around 2 PM and the heavy rainfall.

The BMC advised residents to leave their homes only if necessary and call 1916 for immediate emergency assistance. Local train services have been significantly affected. The Central Railway has terminated and rescheduled several trains, suspending services on the Main Line-Down and Up Fast Line between CSMT and Thane due to waterlogging at multiple locations. However, the Down and Up slow lines remain operational. Harbour Line services are also temporarily halted due to waterlogging at Chunnabhati. As a result of these disruptions, commuters and residents are urged to stay informed through official channels and avoid unnecessary travel. The BMC and other local units are actively addressing issues arising from continuous rainfall and ensuring public safety.
