Multiple food outlets in Karnataka reported with Foreign entities in Food items
Recent inspections by Karnataka’s Food Safety and Standards Authority (FSSA) have revealed the presence of harmful bacteria and yeast in shawarma samples, raising concerns about food safety at popular street food stalls
According to The Times of India, FSSA officials collected shawarma samples from ten districts, including several restaurants within the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits. Eight of 17 samples contained unhealthy bacterial and yeast growth, rendering them hazardous to human health. A senior FSSA official assured that action would be taken against restaurants failing to comply with safety standards. This investigation follows a previous report indicating that 22% of pani puri samples also did not meet safety standards.
Of 260 pani puri samples tested, 41 contained artificial colors and carcinogenic agents, while 18 were deemed unfit for consumption. In response to these alarming findings, Karnataka has banned artificial colors in various food items, including kebabs, gobi Manchurian, and cotton candy. The discovery of hazardous artificial coloring agents such as Rhodamine-B, sunset yellow, and carmoisine in food samples prompted the ban. These measures are part of a broader effort to ensure the safety and quality of street food in the state.
