Taiwan says that it doesn’t fancies any war with China
Taiwan’s Defense Minister, Wellington Koo, emphasized on Monday that Taiwan is not seeking conflict with China
Instead, Taiwan’s policy focuses on developing a strong, multi-level defense system, which includes [specific components or strategies], to deter any attempts by China to capture the island. Koo highlighted that it is China that has been the provocateur, increasing military and political pressure on Taiwan to accept Beijing’s sovereignty claims, which the government in Taipei firmly rejects. Despite China viewing Taiwan as its territory, Taiwan remains a democratically governed entity. Beijing has intensified its efforts to pressure Taiwan into submission, but Taiwan remains steadfast in its resistance. President Lai Ching-te, in a powerful restatement of Taiwan’s stance on Sunday, declared that China considers the annexation of Taiwan its significant national objective.
He urged military cadets to reject defeatism and the notion that Taiwan would quickly fall if China attacked. When questioned by reporters in parliament about how long Taiwan could withstand a Chinese assault without U.S. support, Koo responded that this concern is not central to Taiwan’s defense strategy. The focus remains on bolstering Taiwan’s own defensive capabilities to ensure its resilience and security in the face of potential aggression from China. This resolute statement underscores Taiwan’s unwavering commitment to maintaining its sovereignty and preparing for its defense while avoiding direct conflict with China, a commitment that demands respect.
