Krishna Kumari Rai, the wife of Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, has resigned as an MLA just a day after taking oath

She had won the Namchi-Singhithang seat in the recent assembly polls, defeating the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) candidate Bimal Rai. Krishna Kumari Rai’s resignation was accepted by Speaker M N Sherpa, and the same was confirmed by Lalit Kumar Gurung(Assembly Secratary). Prem Singh Tamang, currently in Arunachal Pradesh for the swearing-in ceremony of his counterpart Pema Khandu, addressed the issue on Facebook. He clarified that Krishna Kumari Rai resigned in accordance with the party’s unanimous decision, prioritizing its welfare and objectives. He expressed deep gratitude to her for her unwavering dedication and support, noting that she contested the elections at the request of the parliamentary committee of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) party.

As Krishna Kumari Rai has resigned, he mentioned that the Namchi-Singhithang constituency would soon have a new dedicated MLA who would serve the interests of its residents. Tamang assured the people of Sikkim that the SKM party, unwavering in its commitment, remains dedicated to providing opportunities to genuine and dedicated functionaries to serve the state. In conclusion, Tamang stated that both he and Krishna Rai would continue to be actively involved in addressing the needs of the people, ensuring that the constituency receives care and attention from its representatives.
