Limped Judiciary of Pune: 17-year-old Vedant Agarwal was granted despite running over two
Within 15 hours of a fatal accident, Vedant Agarwal, son of renowned builder Vishal Agarwal of Bramha Realty, was granted bail by a holiday court. Vedant, a 17-year-old minor, was involved in an incident resulting in the deaths of Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta near Landmark Society in Kalyani Nagar. Despite having a designated driver, Vedant chose to drive a new, unregistered Porsche, leading to the collision around 3 am on Sunday. His lawyer said they would fully cooperate with the investigation and adhere to the court’s conditions. The Pune Police revealed that Vedant had been celebrating the completion of his 12th-grade exams at two restaurant bars in Koregaon Park. The circumstances under which the minor was allowed into these establishments remain under investigation. Vedant’s decision to drive home led to the tragic accident. The police have charged him under several IPC and Motor Vehicles Act sections. Aqib Ramzan Mulla, a 24-year-old from Chandannagar, complained.
Additionally, the police intended to prosecute Vedant’s father for allowing his underage son to drive and the bar owner for serving alcohol to a minor under the Juvenile Justice Act. The Yerwada police detained Vedant and were later granted bail by a holiday magistrate court. His blood sample has been taken for alcohol testing, with results pending. The incident has raised significant concerns about underage access to alcohol and driving privileges. The authorities are scrutinizing how Vedant, a minor, gained entry into the bars and acquired alcohol, as well as his decision to drive an unregistered vehicle. This tragic event underscores the urgent need for stricter enforcement of laws regarding underage drinking and driving.
