Shashi Tharoor Faces Allegations of False Campaign Against Rival Candidate in 2024 Lok Sabha Polls
Shashi Tharoor, a prominent Congress leader and Lok Sabha candidate, has been accused of conducting a misleading campaign against his rival, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The Cyber Police registered the case on April 15, but details were disclosed recently.
The complaint, filed by BJP leader J R Padmakumar, alleges that during a televised program, Tharoor made defamatory remarks against Chandrasekhar, suggesting he was influencing voters in coastal regions for the upcoming elections.
The case has been filed under Sections 171-G and 500 of the Indian Penal Code, along with Section 65 of the IT Act, pertaining to false statements in connection with elections and defamation, respectively. An ongoing investigation is underway. Tharoor, contesting from the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency, has yet to respond to the allegations.
