Dota 2 – stride towards Intl-2024: a game that annually concludes with millions in prize-pool!
Dota 2, developed by Valve, is a standalone multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game that serves as a successor to Defense of the Ancients (DotA), a popular modification for Warcraft III.
In Dota 2, two teams of five players engage in fantasy-style battles, each team positioned at opposite ends of a map, vying to destroy the other’s base. Players control powerful characters called ‘heroes’, each with unique abilities that can be enhanced during gameplay. Renowned for its complexity, Dota 2 attracts gamers of all skill levels, including top-tier players who compete in lucrative global eSports tournaments.
Newcomers can familiarize themselves with Dota 2 through demo options to learn its mechanics and experiment with different heroes. The game employs matchmaking to ensure fair matchups based on players’ experience levels. Communication within Dota 2 is facilitated through preloaded text messages, voice chat, or the option to mute these features.
As preparations unfold, banners are cleansed, trumpets tested, and battlefields cleared in anticipation of The International tournament set to return to Europe in September. Held at Copenhagen’s Royal Arena, this prestigious event will see the world’s best Dota teams vie for the coveted Aegis.
The tournament will feature sixteen teams, comprising a mix of open qualifiers, regional qualifiers, and direct invitations. Invited teams will be announced closer to the event, selected based on their performance throughout the year, similar to previous iterations of The International.
The competitive Dota 2 calendar for the year is brimming with activity, boasting a plethora of major tournaments across various regions, including Europe, Asia, South America, and the Middle East. Rumours suggest the potential return of Midas Mode, adding to the excitement. Tournament eligibility criteria prioritize cross-regional participation and qualifiers, ensuring a wealth of valuable competitive data.
