Luna-25 Failure: Consultant Scientist to the Mission Hospitalised
The news announcing the Luna-25 failure came as a shock to Russia, which was hoping to become the first nation to land on the southern pole of the moon. Their satellite crashed with the surface of the moon, and the reason behind this failure has reportedly taken place due to a human error. Russia’s space agency RosCosmos announced the failure saying, “The apparatus moved into an unpredictable orbit and ceased to exist as a result of a collision with the surface of the Moon.” According to The Independent UK, Mikhail Marov, a consultant scientist to the mission, has experienced a sharp deterioration in health.
The 90-year-old scientist expressed his disappointment over Luna-25 failure and worry for the future of Russia’s space program, saying, “It is so sad that it was not possible to land the apparatus. How can I not worry? This has been very much a matter of my life. It’s all very hard. For the specialists who will be involved in the work of the commission, this will not be a big problem. I think the answer will be found in the foreseeable future.” On the other hand, India’s ISRO is aiming to land Chandrayaan-3 on the same region of the moon on August 23. India will become the first nation on earth to land on the southern pole of the moon if this mission becomes a success.
