‘Oppenheimer’ director Christopher Nolan Warns About AI
Esteemed filmmaker Christopher Nolan is gearing up for the much-awaited worldwide release of Oppenheimer, which is based on the American nuclear scientist J. Oppenheimer, who was the principal force behind the invention of the atom bomb. Nolan, along with the film’s huge star cast featuring Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, and others, is busy promoting the film ahead of its release. However, the star cast walked out of the London premiere to show their solidarity towards the actors’ and writers’ strike against the use and growth of artificial intelligence in their field.
Christopher Nolan weighed in his views on AI and stated that people vouching for AI in cinema must take accountability for any negative repercussions that may eventually occur. “People in my business talking about it; they just don’t want to take responsibility for whatever that algorithm does. With the labour disputes going on in Hollywood right now, a lot of it — when we talk about AI, when we talk about these issues — they’re all ultimately born from the same thing, which is when you innovate with technology, you have to maintain accountability,” he said during a panel discussion, as per Variety. Nolan-directed Oppenheimer hits the theatres on July 21.
