Tata Group to Become an iPhone Manufacturer Soon?
Tata Group had announced a while back that they were in talks with Apple for a joint venture to set up a huge manufacturing plant in India. While their negotiations have been in process for a while now, it appears that both sides are close to coming to an agreement. This agreement is likely to be announced as early as August, as per a Bloomberg report. These updates are yet to be confirmed by both Tata Group and Apple, who are reportedly working on the takeover of the Wistrom Corp. Factory located in Karnataka.
Earlier this year, Apple CEO Tim Cook visited India, wherein he met top government officials and inaugurated the two Apple stores in Mumbai and Delhi. This visit is likely to have added pace to this project, which is being significantly expanded. This joint venture by the Tata Group and Apple is heading towards potentially manufacturing a bigger diversity of Apple products and not just iPhones. Once this project officially takes off, the Tata Group will become the first domestic organisation to manufacture Apple products.
