Flooding in Yamuna Triggers Evacuation Process in Delhi
Delhi has witnessed heavy rainfall in the past few days, which has caused flooding in Yamuna River. It recently crossed the red alert line, which has caused the government to initiate the evacuation process in the surrounding areas, as per PTI. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal stated on Monday that while the chances of floods are low, his administration is prepared for any situation that may arise. However, the water levels crossed the danger mark of 206 metres, which caused the East Delhi district to begin the evacuation process.
The people who have been moved due to flooding in Yamuna are being taken to safety at higher grounds. Their government had also announced the shutting down of schools in light of these growing floods and heavy precipitation. Along with Delhi, several other parts of northern India are currently dealing with floods. These include parts of Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh. The highest water level ever recorded in Yamuna was in 1978, when it reached 207.49 metres.
