Data Bill Likely to Be Introduced in Cabinet Today
There has been a lot of talk about the Data Bill for India, which is due to be open for public discussion soon after being approved by the cabinet. This bill will officially be presented to India’s Union Cabinet on Wednesday, July 5, as per a report from the Indian Express. This bill will cover the regulations regarding data safety and privacy in this bill, which will be presented in the upcoming Parliament session once it gets approval from the cabinet in this meeting, a senior government official told the publication.
India’s Minister of Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrashekhar, had earlier said, “The new Bill makes sure that consumer rights to data protection are captured as rights. Data fiduciaries’ obligations are light and easy to comply with so that it does not slow down innovation, the economy, and India’s position as a safe destination for data processing for the world’s citizens. It also ensures that the government’s governance objectives based on data governance are met.” This Data Bill will reportedly have strict laws against the misuse of data by private entities, especially on matters relating to national security.
