Russia Thwarts a Major Counteroffensive Drone Attack by Ukraine
The recent military coup attempt in Russia has prompted Ukraine to launch a major counteroffensive attack against Moscow. The Russian capital has recently reported a major drone attack attempt by Kyiv that was aimed at its international airports. Their Defence Ministry shared updates on the attack saying that five drones had attempted to attack, out of which four drones were destroyed by the air defenses and one was downed by jamming it electronically, as per PTI. However, this naturally resulted in temporary restrictions on Moscow flights.
Ukraine had attempted to attack via drones earlier this year as well, which came as a major shock to Moscow. They were visibly prepared for a similar attack which helped them counter Ukrainians this time. The Wagner Group, headed by Putin’s former close aid Yevgeny Prigozhin has politically placed Russia in a volatile state, and it has been used as an opportunity by Ukraine and the West to increase its pressure on Russia. While the coup was deterred quickly by Moscow, it will likely have long-term repercussions for Russia in times to come.
